The Bendix Modern Home Laundry was photographed by Elmer Harvey Bone on August 18, 1956. The building was constructed in 1950 and today is home to the Gainesville Floral Exchange (635 NW 13th St).
The Bendix Home Laundry system was introduced in 1937 by the Bendix Home Appliances company, which leased the name from the Bendix Corporation (automotive/aviation manufacturer). Their machine was one of the first to automate the washing process. "Rid yourself of 'washday'!"
