Growing Green Stormwater Infrastructure Workforce in Kansas City
CWP partnered with Mid-America Regional Council to deliver the first of two seasonal field maintenance trainings for Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) Maintenance Certification to support the Kansas City’s Regional GSI workforce. Thirty-six local contractors and municipal employees attended the first field training on June 4, 2026.
The field certification was supported by regional stormwater professionals who helped pilot the field training in mid-May. From this group, several local professionals from City of Lenexa, Vireo , and KC Water led instruction for the first participant training in early June.
The training was developed under the EPA Water Workforce Initiative grant as part of a comprehensive program within the Kansas City Region to develop and support pathways for entry-level and existing workforce into the GSI and stormwater field.
Thank you to our partners at Mid-America Regional Council, and the participants who helped make this milestone in maintenance training possible. We look forward to our second session of training in the fall and seeing the program continue to grow!
