When I saw Easel’s picture on the Humane Society website, I immediately knew he was the one. And boy was I right. Anyone who knew him knew he truly was a special dog. Everyone thinks their dog is the best, and I’m not saying they’re wrong, but Easel had a soul like no other. I remember thinking when I adopted him at 23 years old, “wow—I might have him until I’m 35. What will life be like?!” Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine what we’d experience together and that I’d be nearly 40 when he passed. As anyone who’s loved a dog knows, not even 16+ years and all the readying in the world can soften the blow. Being the incredible dog he was, he waited to go until I finished one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. I don’t usually share personal things online, but I know he touched a lot of people, and I’m hoping for a little catharsis through writing. Rest Easy, Easy.
