(Trainer Soap Box) Whether I am teaching an exercise or the golf swing, if you worked with me you know I am always looking for MORE. More DATA or more VALUE to bring to my clients. More RELEVANCE so I can relate it to their learning style or to where ever their context is at the moment.
Furthermore, for every movement pattern or sub system I want to train. There are really infinite variations of exercises that we can do , for that patter. I have clients that I have worked with for years and never done the same workouts twice. Sometimes the urge to create the perfect exercise- STEELS the value away from mastering something simpler and still vastly effective.
GREAT PROGRAMMING is great programming. It is an art that even to this day I am looking to get better at. Simple exercises can teach you some of the most relevant and complex details of great movement- if you let it.
They say true genius is making the complex simple. Part of that is seeing the beauty of the complexity in simplicity. THIS is where my last year of training has lead me.
Hold trainers accountable- hold them to a high standard- ASK QUESTIONS- but don't overlook a simple program as one that is not effective. ( The KISS method- Keep it Simple Stupid)
All this made possible by a client, asking questions and having a harder conversation. Thank You!
Complexity isn't the answer, something I have to remind myself.
One of my favorite quotes of all time from C.S Lewis, " The whole point of seeing through something is to see something else through it... To see through all things is the same as not to see." - C.S. Lewis The Abolition Of Man
