Exercises creates Neuro plasticity!!!!!
Researchers have recently found that the molecule lactate, which builds up in the body during intense exercise, might directly activate brain mechanisms linked to growth and plasticity. In a controlled study with healthy adults who received a lactate infusion (without exercising), levels of a precursor form of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (pro-BDNF) rose significantly in the blood. This suggests that lactate alone can mimic part of the brain-boosting effect of exercise by increasing pro-BDNF levels. However, the mature form of BDNF (m-BDNF) did not change under those conditions.
The findings point to lactate acting like a signalling molecule—sometimes called a “lactormone”—that may help relay the benefits of physical activity to the brain. During exercise, muscles produce lactate, the liver and other tissues may release it into circulation, and then brain cells respond by switching metabolic modes and producing growth factors like BDNF. The absence of mature BDNF change in the infusion study indicates that exercise involves multiple pathways beyond just lactate elevation.
In practical terms, this research reinforces the importance of vigorous exercise for brain health, as it triggers lactate release plus many other beneficial responses. While the study opens possibilities for interventions or therapies that target lactate-based signalling, it does not suggest replacing exercise with a simple infusion or supplement. Physical activity remains the most holistic way to boost brain plasticity.
