Today a farmers life was put in danger.

If we can spread any awareness maybe we can make tomorrow a better day.

The short and sweet: Do NOT pass farm equipment around blind corners on a back road. There’s is nothing worth a man or woman’s life that’s calls for you putting them in danger like that.
If a farmer is fortunate enough to have a follow vehicle that vehicle is there to protect them from what they cannot see or hear coming from behind them. If a follow vehicle is riding in the middle of the road it is because they are blocking vehicles from passing the tractor because they know traffic cannot safely pass. Even if a follow vehicle is not always riding in the middle of the road they hope that between their hazards being on and a blind corner that nobody would be selfish enough to try to pass.

The backstory: Today as Anvil CFT was moving equipment from one field to another, with a follow vehicle, a man was driving very close to the follow vehicle on an approximately 5 mile stretch of 25-35 mph back road. This particular road however is about 90% blind corners until the very end of each side. We’ve taken this route for years and rarely have trouble with other drivers being disrespectful. We purposely do our best to take low speed back roads to transport slow moving equipment, for our safety and the safety of others.
Today we had a man try twice to pass the follow vehicle and equipment, as the follow vehicle was driving in the middle of the road to block traffic coming from behind. The man did this both times around a blind corner where the follow vehicle could see oncoming traffic. If this man had been allowed to pass the tractor when he so desperately wanted to it could’ve caused a fatal accident involving said driver, oncoming traffic, and the incredibly vulnerable farmer on an open unprotected tractor. This man made one last desperate attempt to pass the follower and equipment around yet another blind turn, this time the follow vehicle did not notice this man doing so until he was already next to the truck. The follower honked repeatedly and waved the man back behind the truck, he instead sped up and cut back in dangerously close to the tractor. As the follower continued to honk (which by the way farmers cannot typically hear over the sound of their own equipment) the farmer happened to look back and see this man as he quickly made another attempt speeding around the tractor.
Within another half a mile the farmer and follower made it to the end of the road where this disrespectful man would’ve had plenty of space to safely pass.
It’s infuriating for a farmer to be put in danger for somebody who selfishly cannot wait, and it’s scary and upsetting for the follow driver who is usually family.
Respect for farmers and the working class is quickly diminishing and it’s quite frankly heartbreaking. Please do better. Please share, because even though you may have this common sense and knowledge, others you are friends with or know may not.

Attached will be a picture of just how much space some farm equipment needs on the road. We do our best to get over and give drivers space but there’s only so much we can do.

Thank you if you read this far.
Anvil CFT appreciates you. 🚜
