As we started opening up the rear entryway of the Reyes family home, we quickly discovered extensive structural damage, rotted beams, failing supports, and years of hidden deterioration.

The deeper we looked, the bigger the problem became.

Honestly, we're not sure how this area was still supporting daily use.

But that's exactly why home renovation, accessibility improvements, and structural repairs matter.

Sometimes the most dangerous problems are the ones hidden beneath the surface.

We found it before someone got hurt.

And now we can rebuild it the right way.

On this Family to the Rescue renovation project, Vinny teaches Chin—an ICU nurse and first-time construction volunteer—one of the most important framing and carpentry basics.

The crown is the natural curve or bow in a piece of lumber, whether it's a stud, 2x4, 2x6, or framing board. Before building a wall, professional carpenters and contractors identify the crown and keep all the boards facing the same direction.
