‘Admitting there is a wrong’: Advocates push for passage of wrongful conviction compensation bill 03/15/2026

A wrongful conviction doesn’t end when someone is finally proven innocent. For many exonerees, the fight to rebuild their lives is only just beginning.

Advocates across Kentucky are pushing for the passage of Senate Bill 131, which would create a framework to compensate people who were wrongfully convicted and later exonerated. Supporters say the bill is about acknowledging the harm done and helping innocent people move forward after losing years of their lives behind bars.

This story highlights why that legislation matters and the voices calling for change.
