Local Laurens Heritage radio station to sign off the air by the end of the month.
WLBG to Leave the Air
Friday, March 21, 2025
WLBG Radio is scheduled to leave the air Monday night, March 31st. This is a painful decision we came to after years of searching for possible future ownership for WLBG.
When my company purchased WLBG in 1983, it was operating at a financial loss, having slumped in business since WLBG-FM was sold and turned into a Greenville station. By focusing on Laurens County, covering our local community with news, sports and a wide variety of programs that uniquely served Laurens County, and with great, loyal employees, we were able to resurrect WLBG to again become an active, community-based radio station. In the 1980’s, when most AM stations were in decline, some leaving the air, we had wonderful growth in both listeners and advertisers to support our programming.
For the past eight years, our goal was to find new ownership to take over WLBG and take it to the next level, ensuring WLBG’s service to the community into the future. Over these years of searching, it has become obvious that social media is the focus for younger generations, to the detriment of more traditional media.
We are deeply grateful to all the organizations we were able to work with to serve the good of our community. We thank all our listeners for listening and contacting us with ideas for us to cover. We appreciate our staff and our Vice-President, Mike Johnson, for your efforts. We especially thank the business community who have supported WLBG by letting us advertise for them.
For any questions, the email: [email protected] will remain active for a few months. Meanwhile, we will not immediately return our license to operate on 860 & 104.1 to the FCC; just in case our departure sparks an idea that has not yet occurred to a potential buyer.
Thank you,
Emil

If you are a Laurens County Voter who resides close enough to Fountain Inn, you are likely also a resident of Greenville County School District 27 as shown in this map image.
This means that even though you may reside in Laurens county and pay property taxes to Laurens county, your children are eligible to attend Greenville County Schools.
This is not a mistake. Laurens County never constructed schools any closer to our area except GCO. Greenville County Schools plans it's district 27 growth around this and GCS receives property tax from Laurens county residents who live within District 27.
There are currently two candidates running for the District 27 seat. The seat is non partisan non politically affiliated, however one candidate has voted no for teacher raises, is a member of a group they deny being apart of, and has issues affecting their ability to effectively understand deadlines and budget line item needs over wants. They fell in default.
The other candidate is an outstanding volunteer for your parents & kids. Also a conservative and understands the needs of our schools for the next generation. One who wants our schools when they are opened to not be at capacity on the first day. A candidate who didnt take any pact money to run and has been transparent and has been visible to meet you in public in various schools activities and listens to you and your worries. They have run a kind and honest campain to ask for your vote to serve you! This may be the one you need to cast your vote for.
The map image is taken directly from the Greenville County School Districts map. If you are a registered voter in Laurens County and you reside within GCSD District 27 on the map Melissa March and Sarah Dulin will appear on your ballot.
The light blue area is District 27 where about 40% is in Laurens County. If you live in this area you should see Melissa March or Sarah Dulin on your sample ballot at https://vrems.scvotes.sc.gov/Voter/Login?PageMode=Sampleballot
