Dr. Matilda A. Evans was a true pioneer in South Carolina history. As the first African American woman to practice medicine in the state, she broke barriers and built lasting change through her work in healthcare, education, and public service.

Check out our exhibit curated by Walter Curry, Author of "South Carolina's Matilda Evans." Also, thanks to South Carolina Humanities you can join us on April 28 at 6 PM to hear him share her incredible journey! 🩺🥼
