Last night I took my wife April to eat at Lucille's Cafe on Old Camp Bowie to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our first date. I met her in that building 30 years ago when it was a Black Eyed Pea Restaurant. I was tending bar there and going to school, she was a hostess evenings and weekends as a second job. I was instantly head over heals and after a few weeks worked up the nerve to ask her out for valentines but it had to be on Thursday before the Friday night valentines fell on like it does this year. She said yes then went home and started to back out. She couldn’t figure out what kind of guy would ask someone out not only on a Thursday night but the Thursday that valentines Friday night followed? Fortunately for me her Aunt explained to her, the kind of guy paying his own way through school and for his truck by bartending at the same place you work! Friday and Saturday will be his big tip nights he’s not missing the biggest date night a bartender gets! Fortunately for me Lesa saved the day! She had spaghetti with meatballs and meat sauce I can tell you every detail of that night. I dropped her off kissed her good night and we have been forever since.
