I didn’t find out that my mom’s favorite flower was pink carnations until the day she died, which threw me into a regret-filled panic. (Know your peoples’ favorite flower!) Ever since that day, I find myself occasionally being drawn to them at the flower stand, and when I am, I know she’s wafting by (as she did just a few days ago.)

That’s just one of many ways I started turning my grief into love 30 years ago. I noticed when she showed up and I did something to acknowledge it. I bought flowers. I wrote her letters. I got out of bed when the scent of her perfume awakened me and followed it all over the house. I replayed her silly laughter over and over in my mind.

Grief had a hard time competing with my new way of connecting to my mom's spirit, and started to take a back seat to what I know she really wanted me to feel. Then it disappeared, and all that was left was love.

INVISIBLE INK™ helps you find the healing power of connecting with your loved one's spirit through meditative writing. It will call your own spirit forth in the process.💖

THE DIGNITY OF BEING SEEN
Many of us grew up in homes with parents who really couldn’t see the magic and wonder of us. They didn’t know how, maybe. Or they had too much going on. Or if it was worse than that, I’m sure you know why you were so invisible to them.

But someone was out there in the world waiting for you. A teacher, a relative, a family friend. And all it ever took was one of them making sure you knew they could see something special about you to ground you in a sense of your own dignity.

I hope that happened for you. And if it did, please pay it forward a thousand times. Be on the lookout for people - young or old - who spark your interest, your curiosity, your admiration, your sense that somehow they’re special. And then point it out with a smile, a compliment, an invitation to have coffee and talk; just keep it simple and keep it going.

I believe the power of a single one of those moments is greater than 100 moments of cruelty, ignorance, and hatred. The healing of the world lies in our ability to see and nurture the good in each other, and there's no time to waste.❤️

Kudos to the Indiana skies for all the cloud magic this week. This view from my writing space has fueled the muse.
