One of the biggest misconceptions in Christianity is the idea that you must constantly strive or “die to yourself” to become more like Jesus.
But what if you already are like Him?
Scripture tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. That means:
- You’ve been spiritually reborn
- You have new desires
- Your heart is aligned with God
You are not defined by your past.
You are defined by who God says you are.
When you truly accept that, it frees you to walk confidently in who you already are.

- You let go of old patterns and step into new life

What about 1 John 1:9?
It's for unbelievers, not believers -- the context reveals that.
The historical context is that this was written to the Gnostics (unbelievers) who did not believe that they had sin.
The word "sins" (in this verse) is a noun not a verb. in other words, it's describing a state of being not something you do. It's not an action word.
The apostle Paul, who is responsible for writing over half of the New Testament, never asked anyone to confess their sins in order to be forgiven.

Is it OK to tell God that you're sorry for something you've done?
Yes. A believer is not happy about sinning.

How do we know our future sins have been forgiven?

But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God Hebrews 10:12

For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
Hebrews 10:14

Jesus is one and done sacrifice was good for all time.
In order to have time you have to have past present and future. If you don't have that you don't have time.

Wouldn't you ask your wife or husband to forgive you when you have wronged them? If so, why wouldn't you do so with God?
Well, because my wife did not die on the cross for me, Humans are different than God.
Our spouse did not forgive our future sins. Therefore, ask them to forgive you.🙂

Where in the Bible does it say that the 10 Commandments are a ministry of death and condemnation?
7 Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses’ face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end, 8 will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory? 9 For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation, the ministry of righteousness must far exceed it in glory.

Where in the Bible does it say that the law is not for us today?

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. Romans 10:4
