This truck has had 3 bearing failures on the same wheel end in less than 2 months. The shop that has been repairing it called us in to do the repair this time, and to see if we could diagnose the cause.
The spindle nut had to be cut off with a torch, as well as the outer bearing. We did this very carefully to try and save the spindle. Unfortunately this bearing failure had already damaged the spindle beyond saving and The Axle Surgeon had to be called.

This old horse has worked hard the last couple of days and has burned through a lot of feed.

Received a call this am for trailer lights not working. As we were diagnosing the problem, smoke started rolling out of this bundle of green tape.
Whoever had done this previous "repair" had twisted all the bare wires together. This included the ground wire. Then they wrapped it in tape. Tape doesn't do much to protect wiring from the elements. Especially when they're behind the trailer tires.
We cut out all the corroded wires and used crimp, solder, seal connectors. After the connector is crimped, heat is applied and the solder that is inside the connector flows into the wires. The heat also activates the heat shrink which keeps the elements out.
This customer risked a lot by not doing it correctly the first time, and it wouldn't have taken any more time.

This had been repaired before. They didn't repair the cause of the failure so it happened again.
