Yesterday evening, May 29th, at 6:28 PM, Fort Dodge Fire was dispatched to the area of 1st Ave NW and 4th St NW for reports of a large fire in the area. Upon arrival, Car 2 identified a working structure fire at 424 1st Ave NW and called for an offensive attack. Engine 1 needed to lay 800 feet of 5’’ supply hose from the hydrant to the structure. A total of 3 attack lines were deployed for fire suppression. All searches of the structure were negative. A 2nd alarm was called which returned a total of 4 off-duty firefighters to the scene for additional assistance. Fire crews were on scene for approximately 3 hours for extensive overhaul of the structure.
The structure was believed to be a vacant residence. There were no injuries to be reported from the scene. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
A huge thank you to the Medic 1 crew for not only staying past their regular shift hours to assist fire crews on scene and handle medical calls during the incident, but they brought some snacks and refreshments to the scene for the firefighters to help with recovery.
Fort Dodge Fire was also assisted on scene by Fort Dodge Police and MidAmerica.
