Let’s talk about filling space appropriately……

Think of decorating your house kinda the same way you dress yourself. You want to dress proportionately. Some things fit and some things don’t. The same goes for decorating.

Here for example my kitchen island, which is 14’ long and narrow. I added a table runner and an old chicken feeder. The island, feeder, and runner mimic each other in shape and fills the space nicely. Now imagine a small tray with a small vase sitting in the middle of this island, it wouldn’t stand out and it would likely make the island feel overwhelming large. Kinda like when we put jeans on that are too small, we feel larger than we should. The same things apply for decorating. Proportions matter.

Next time you’re struggling with an area in your home whether it’s a shelf, wall, etc. ask yourself if it feels proportional.
