A 2011 study set out to discover the dietary needs for vitamin D in pregnancy.

At the time, this was a bold study that countered all previously known measures of vitamin D in pregnancy. The researchers’ goal was to raise and maintain serum 25(OH)D levels at a minimum of 32 ng/mL throughout
pregnancy. What they found was that a dosage of 4,000 IU/day(d) safely maintained these levels. There was not a single adverse event during the trial that could be attributed to the dosage of vitamin D. This single study changed the course of how nutritional science viewed vitamin D in pregnancy.

Several other studies followed and found that higher doses of vitamin D are not only safe but also reduce the risk of cesarean delivery, reduce the risk of preterm birth, decrease complications in pregnancy, and decrease the incidence of gestational diabetes.

This event exists to support bereaved parents and families in their grief journey. It’s a night full of love and tears, heartbreak and healing. It was hard. And so very beautiful.
