What is the backfire effect?
Brendan Nyhan and Jason Reifler coined the term “backfire effect” to describe the way that even given evidence against their beliefs, people maintain their beliefs, actually becoming even more strongly convinced of said beliefs. We are sharing this to help bring awareness as to why it sometimes so hard to have difficult conversations with others and what makes them "dig their heels in" even when presented with evidence of something contrary to their current belief. Please take a moment to read and provide any feedback based on what it covers.
