What began as a dream more than a decade ago became a reality today as Monroe County Schools celebrated the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the new Mary Persons High School Fieldhouse and Stadium Plaza.
This state-of-the-art facility provides our student-athletes and coaches with the resources they need to prepare, compete, and succeed. Community members, coaches, and players had the opportunity to tour the impressive three-story building and experience firsthand everything it has to offer—from a modern weight room and recovery areas to meeting spaces, film rooms, and a stadium viewing area overlooking Dan Pitts Stadium.
Made possible through ESPLOST funding, this project reflects our community’s continued investment in the future of Monroe County students. We extend our sincere gratitude to the voters of Monroe County for supporting this vision and to Parrish Construction for delivering a first-class facility that will serve generations of Bulldogs to come.
The future is bright for Mary Persons Athletics, and today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. 🖤💛

Three Monroe County schools received 5-Star Climate Ratings from the state: Katherine B. Sutton Elementary School, Samuel E. Hubbard Elementary School, and Thomas G. Scott Elementary School. The School Climate Star Rating is a diagnostic tool to determine if a school is on the right path to school improvement, as required by state law (O.C.G.A. § 20-14-33). The state uses four domains to determine schools’ Climate Star Rating: Attendance, Safe and Substance-Free (SSF) Environment, Discipline, and School Climate Survey.
In addition, Mary Persons High School received a 4.75 Climate Star Rating and Monroe County Middle School earned a 4.5 Climate Star Rating.
Dr. Jim Finch, Monroe County Schools Superintendent, says, “A huge thank you goes out to our students, teachers, administration, and staff who continue to put forth the highest quality of performance when it comes to school climate. These ratings are a testament to the leaders and teachers who set the tone for student learning every single day. Support staff such as paraprofessionals, clerical, custodians, nutrition workers and bus drivers are to be commended too. These workers do just as much in helping establish school culture and climate. I am proud to work alongside our employees who continue to create an environment where all students can learn, grow, and succeed.”
