This August we celebrate Children’s Eye Health & Safety Month—with 1 in 4 school-aged kids facing vision issues, early exams really matter. Remember the 20‑20‑20 rule during screen time and schedule their eye check‑ups: 6 months, 3 years, and before school. Let’s help their little eyes grow big and strong! Schedule today for brighter tomorrows.

🎯 Why schedule an eye exam now?

⚡Vision fuels learning: Nearly 80% of classroom learning is visual, including reading, note-taking, and screen use. Undetected vision issues can be mistaken for learning or attention problems.

👩‍🏫School screenings aren’t enough: School or pediatrician vision checks often only test distance vision and miss issues like eye tracking, focusing, depth perception, or binocular coordination.

👀Early detection matters: Problems like nearsightedness, amblyopia (“lazy eye”), or strabismus respond best when caught before your child is about 7–8 years old.

🕓 Recommended frequency:
First exam: By age 1
Pre-school: Ages 3–5
School-aged (after grade 1): At least annually, especially if your child wears glasses, has risk factors, or has vision complaints.

📝 Back-to‑school vision checklist:
▪ Schedule for an exam ideally a few weeks before school starts to allow glasses to arrive.

▪ Watch for signs: eyestrain, head tilting, squinting, rubbing eyes, holding books close, headaches.

▪ Reduce digital eye strain: follow the 20‑20‑20 rule: every 20 min, pause for 20 s to look 20 ft (~6 m) away.

▪ Promote outdoor time, at least 2 hr/day outdoors helps slow myopia progression.

✅ Bottom line
A comprehensive eye exam is not just a box to check—it’s a foundational step to ensure your child can see clearly, comfortably, and confidently all school year. Don’t rely solely on brief screenings. Schedule a full pediatric eye exam before the school year starts, watch for warning signs, and support healthy vision habits like regular breaks and outdoor time.
