Storefront Security Grille Update for NYC Businesses

The NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) has announced that it will NOT enforce the current Local Law 75 of 2009 requirements regarding storefront security grilles at this time.

On May 14, 2026, the NYC Council introduced proposed legislation that could change the existing law, which currently requires storefront security grilles to maintain at least 70% visibility by July 1, 2026.

Because the proposed legislation may impact how the law is applied, DOB has stated that enforcement of the current law will be paused while discussions continue.

Flushing business owners are encouraged to stay informed as updates develop.
