Straw to Bread

The story of Straw to Bread has always been one of intercontinental friendship. Why do we travel to Kenya each year? Without traveling to Kenya, we would not have the opportunity to fellowship with and learn from our friends. At Straw to Bread, we do life TOGETHER–loving and supporting each other, just as Christ has loved us. Want to get involved? Click the link below!

Why do we collect data when we travel to Kenya each year? We value evidence-based service. Without research, we would not be able to tell if our aid projects are effective! That’s why we ask elders, families, and students questions about mosquito nets, housing, clean water access, health, and other markers of socio-economic status. Interested in learning more? Straw to Bread functions under a Kenyan-lead model. The Kenyans set goals and guide our partnership, indicating which projects should be emphasized and expanded. This year the team at Bethlehem Home met with our board and made a plan for the upcoming 5 years, including expanding access to clean water, improving the hospital, and increasing the size of the Bethlehem Home Academy. Stay tuned to hear about our new and exciting projects!

On our May 2026 trip, 8 doctors traveled with the team to Kenya and joined Dr. Don Ogola at Bethlehem Home hospital for two weeks of free treatments and medications. Many of these doctors came to Kenya initially 10-14 years ago as Pre-Med students. They saw the vision all those years ago and couldn’t wait to come back. Together, they saw over 1300 patients! But the best news? The Bethlehem Home hospital is open year- round, and Kenyans on the plateau can continue to follow up and receive care. We are so thankful for Dr. Don Ogola’s continued support of the Kenyans on the Plateau. Want to get involved? You can click on the link below!

In May, our Straw to Bread team of 25 Baylor University students and 22 professionals traveled to Kenya for our annual trip to the Plateau. We spent two weeks working in the hospital clinic, distributing water filters, visiting elders and students, and fellowshipping with our Kenyan family. We are so thankful for all of our team members, coordinators, supporters, and donors! We can’t wait to share all of our stories with you. You can click on the link below to learn how to get involved.
