The recent poll by the Barna Group revealed that only 22% of pastors said they had regular support from a network of peers or a mentor. Often times the overwhelming emotional toll of spiritual leadership can push pastors into places of isolation that God never intended for us to be. If you find yourself isolating, take a step towards health and open up to a safe and trusted friend.

As spiritual leaders, we desire to encourage, help, and engage with people relationally. However, if we don't set healthy boundaries, we can find ourselves emotionally drained, mentally exhausted, and even facing burnout. Leading without boundaries is not sustainable. We find boundaries all though scripture, starting in Genesis when God gave instruction (boundaries) to Adam and Eve. If you've struggled setting healthy boundaries, take steps to establish them.
It's clear that the job of a pastor has become increasingly difficult in recent years. While in 2015 72% of pastors said they were very satisfied with their job, that number has now dropped by 20% to only 52% in late 2022. This troubling trend has led to higher levels of emotional exhaustion, stress, and burnout among ministry leaders, illustrating the need for pastors to prioritize self-care and stress management in order to continue to serve effectively.
