Cold Weather Safety Reminder from Your Fire Department

With the extreme cold settling in, many folks are turning to space heaters to stay warm. They can help, but they also cause thousands of home fires every year. Please take a moment to keep your household safe:

🔥 Space Heater Safety Tips

Keep 3 feet of space around all heaters — away from blankets, curtains, and furniture.

Plug heaters directly into a wall outlet, never a power strip or extension cord.

Use heaters with tip‑over protection and automatic shutoff.

Place them on a flat, stable surface where kids and pets can’t knock them over.

Turn heaters off when you leave the room or go to sleep.

Inspect cords for damage or heat; if something seems off, stop using it.

Keep heaters away from water and never use them to dry clothes.

Staying warm shouldn’t come at the cost of safety. Let’s look out for one another during this cold snap.
