I've been thinking a lot about film set culture lately.

Why has it become so common for Production Assistants to be some of the most underappreciated people on set?

Somewhere along the way, our industry started accepting the idea that the people with the least experience deserve the least respect. That shouldn't be normal.

Every incredible film you've ever watched exists because hundreds of people did their job from producers and directors to grips, electricians, sound mixers, camera assistants, hair and makeup, crafty, PAs, and everyone in between.

No one is "just" a PA.

They're learning. They're solving problems. They're keeping productions moving. They're often the first to arrive and the last to leave.

At the Flint Film Foundation, we hope we're building something different.

We want our students and future crew members to know that professionalism isn't just about talent. It's about how you treat people. The best sets aren't built on fear, ego, or hierarchy they're built on trust, communication, gratitude, and respect.

The art belongs to everyone who helped create it.

If we're going to grow Michigan's film industry, let's grow a culture where every person on set feels valued because every role matters.

Week 1 of Flint Creative Academy is in the books!

Thank you to everyone who took a chance on something new and spent your Sunday with us. Whether you're just getting started or have years of experience, it was incredible to see so many people come together to learn, create, and support one another.

For a long time, we've heard people say Flint needs more opportunities like this. This weekend, we got to watch that idea become reality.

Thank you to our instructors, volunteers, and every person who walked tothrough the door. You helped make the first workshop something special.

We're excited for what's ahead, but we're also taking a moment to appreciate what happened this week. The conversations, the connections, the laughter, and the excitement in the room reminded us why this matters.

This is just the beginning.
