It’s time to revisit the Department of Justice Report on the Ferguson Police Department.

Not to undo the many needed police reforms that started here in Ferguson, nor to slow the pace of progress. Instead, just the opposite – to enable necessary reforms to continue. Because without good data, we will not have effective policies. The Ferguson Police Department certainly wasn’t above reproach. However the Department of Justice purposely manipulated the report to support its demands for sweeping changes in the Department. This mischaracterization of police actions often continues to this day, and it is an impediment to effective, realistic police reforms.
