A pair of pairs last night — post-Mozart Sinfonia Concertante and the US Premiere of Ruth Gipps’ Double Concerto for Violin and Viola and Small Orchestra. Gipps wrote her very quirky and arresting Double Concerto for the same orchestration as the Mozart (in my opinion, one of the most exquisite and perfect pieces ever written).
