NTEC is proud to sponsor the 2026 Ultimate Warrior Challenge and Crow Youth Rodeo Series.

This week-long celebration brought together youth and adult participants for events including running, canoeing and horse racing, showcasing strength, endurance, agility and determination.

Through athletic competition and community gathering, the event honored the rich cultural heritage of the Crow community while bringing participants, families and visitors together.

As the challenge concluded, the community turned its attention to the reenactment commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of the Little Bighorn, an important moment of reflection and remembrance in the region’s history.

The first session of Carbon Rocks! Teacher Workshop was held last week at the Navajo Mine and Four Corners Power Plant outside of Farmington, NM on the Navajo Nation. Each year, Carbon Rocks! brings together teachers of Navajo students to show them the benefits of carbon and its uses. This year, 10 teachers toured Navajo Mine and Four Corners Power Plant to get an up-close look at how energy is produced.

Participants were able to meet and collaborate with other teachers with hands-on lesson plans, gaining knowledge from the experience. During the Navajo Mine tour, teachers were fascinated by the amount of time and attention the Mine gives to maintenance and planning. “The tours and guest speakers were very valuable” said one participant.

Another commented “Professional encounters both at the mine and plant were amazing!"

In addition to the training, teachers received stipends with lodging and meals provided during the workshop. They also earn 20 hours of training and get a backpack full of school supplies and educational materials.

We are proud to host this yearly event! The next session will be held July 13 – 16, 2026.

NTEC’s Cordero Rojo Mine has received multiple state and national honors recognizing excellence in mine reclamation and environmental stewardship.

Cordero Rojo was awarded both the 2025 Excellence in Surface Coal Mining Reclamation National Award and the OSMRE Good Neighbor Award – it is a rare achievement for a mine to receive both national awards in the same year!

The mine was also honored with the 2026 Excellence in Mining Reclamation Award from the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality!

These awards reflect the dedication of the Cordero Rojo team and NTEC’s continued commitment to responsible mining, land restoration, and collaboration with surrounding communities wherever we operate.

Season Wrap-Up: Keeping Our Communities Warm! ❄️🔥

As the winter season comes to a close, we want to take a moment to look back and say Ahe’hee’ (Thank you) to everyone who supported the NTEC Community Heating Resource Program (CHRP) this year!

While the winter weather was unusually mild this time around, our mission to serve the Navajo Nation and our Hopi neighbors remained as strong as ever. Whether you visited us at the yard or received a delivery in your community, it was an honor to help keep your homes warm. 🏠✨

Here is a look at what we accomplished together this season:
Total Coal Distributed: 8,289 tons 🚛
Yard Visitors: 5,151 families and individuals 🤝
Bulk Deliveries: 130 deliveries made to 62 Navajo Chapters and 7 Hopi Villages! 📍

Celebrating Our Hardworking Team 🍲

To wrap up such a successful run, we celebrated with a special appreciation luncheon for our incredible CHRP workers! These are the folks out in the elements every day making sure the coal gets where it needs to go. It was a great time to refuel, share some laughs, and recognize their dedication to the community.

A Special Note of Gratitude 🙏

We also want to extend a very special thank you to Navajo Vice President Richelle Montoya for her kind words and encouragement. Your support means the world to our team and helps fuel our commitment to serving the people!
We are incredibly proud of these results, but we’re even more proud of the resilience of our community. 🧡

Thank you for another successful season! Stay safe, stay warm, and we look forward to seeing you again next year. ⚒️✨
