We worked with a scout this spring who was tasked to come up with a new activity for our Red River Water Festival for their Eagle Scout Project. They created the "Water Cycle Marble Run".

We wanted an activity station that students can come to with their teacher or teacher aide if they need a break from the rest of the water festival that still relates to the topics we teach. The scout put thought, leadership and creativity into this project and came up with a fun “Water Cycle Marble Run”. Students learn about the water cycle by placing pictures of different vocab words/parts of the water cycle on the marble run in the correct placement, place and watch marbles (representing water drops) move through the water cycle. Students will also be able to participate in a water cycle dance as part of this activity.

The scout intentionally chose an activity where different types of sound and touch were incorporated, tried it out with kids in different settings, and built this so it’s portable and easy to set up for us and any other community members who want to borrow this.

A big thank you the scout and BSA Troop 214 that brought this to life!

Thank you to all the amazing groups going out to pick up trash along the Red River and along drainage ditches!

Here a few fun highlights:

NDSU Volunteer Network and MSUM planned a "Battle of the Banks" cleanup competition. They created a fun logo, advertised to students on campus, and made a trophy to pass back and forth to the winning university. We cannot wait to see this new tradition continue! The universities reported picking up over 30 bags of trash this year from 10 locations.

Brandon and his wife saw a need in their neighborhood near the Red River. They reached out, a map was created, and they ended up picking up hundreds of pounds of trash near the Red River in North Fargo in April.

Our friends at Ulteig planned their annual drainage ditch 27 cleanup near Interstate and celebrated afterwards with a get together and food. They worked hard and collected another 100 pounds of trash with some interesting finds!

Thank you to them and everyone else who is picking up trash including groups like our Monthly Volunteer Series, Boy Scout Troop 244, Burian & Associate, She Ascends, Wells Fargo, Aldevron, WEX, Stantect, Scheels, Ignite Church, Stonewall Sports and many more!

Please keep sending in your photos, we love to see them!
