You walked through a web this morning and wiped it off your face without looking at what built it. The web already told you.
An organized circle stretched between two branches — orb weaver. She rebuilt the whole thing last night after eating the old one. Same architecture, same anchor points, from memory.
A messy tangle in the corner of the garage — cobweb spider. Looks like a mistake. Catches more insects than any other web type in the house.
A funnel disappearing into the grass — grass spider. She sits inside the narrow end and waits for vibration. You've seen these covered in dew at dawn and never realized something was watching from inside.
🌿 The one that got me: two of the six spiders on this chart don't build webs at all. The jumping spider stalks prey on walls and plants — she's the small one that turns to face you when you get close. The crab spider hides inside a flower, camouflaged to match the petals, and grabs bees and butterflies that land.
The sheet webs in the grass. The cobwebs in the garage. The orb in the garden. Every one of them is catching hundreds of insects a week.
The shape of the web names the spider. Every time 🐾
