Alsager Meats
☀️ Why do we bed our cattle pens during the hottest days of summer? 🐂
It might seem a little unusual, but there’s a good reason behind it!
By spreading corn stover in our cattle pens, the sunlight reflects off the lighter-colored bedding instead of being absorbed by the dark ground. Black soil can become extremely hot and actually amplify the air temperature around the cattle. The corn stover helps keep the pens cooler and more comfortable.
The bedding also encourages the cattle to spread out instead of crowding together, which helps them stay cooler during these hot summer days.
At Alsager Ranch, caring for our cattle is always a top priority. Even the little things—like bedding pens in the middle of summer—can make a big difference in their comfort and well-being. ❤️🌽🐄
