Remembering the tenacity and faith of the Pilgrims...

As we enjoy our feasts of plenty, we reflect on the small band of Pilgrims (102 total) seeking religious freedom in the new world. Arriving November 11, 1620 at Cape Cod, they began a difficult year. Scurvy, pneumonia, tuberculosis food shortages, etc. made it truly a brutal year. Only 50 survived. Of the 18 women who crossed, only 5 made it to the next year. After their harvest, with the help of native people, by the Grace of God, they had much to reflect and celebrate.

As we ask for the blessing before we feast, let's remember the 50 survivors and their journey for religious freedom and our beautiful country. Let's keep "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" more than words but a compass for our American Experiment.
