Bus driver charged in deadly I-95 Stafford County crash due in court 06/10/2026

Today I had the opportunity to speak with veteran reporter Bob Barnard regarding the tragic I-95 bus crash and the criminal charges that have been filed against the driver.

As both a trial attorney and a lawyer who has handled catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases for more than three decades, I was asked to discuss the intersection between criminal accountability and civil responsibility.

One point I emphasized is that criminal proceedings and civil litigation serve different purposes. Criminal cases seek accountability to the Commonwealth. Civil cases seek justice for victims and families whose lives have been permanently altered.

While criminal charges can be significant, the real work often begins afterward. Thorough investigation, preservation of evidence, analysis of corporate policies, driver qualifications, maintenance records, insurance coverage, and identifying all potentially responsible parties are critical components of obtaining meaningful results for victims.

In high-exposure transportation cases, successful representation requires more than simply filing a lawsuit. It requires experience, resources, strategic planning, and a willingness to take difficult cases through trial when necessary.

For more than 30 years, I have represented victims and families in complex injury and wrongful death cases throughout Virginia. Whether the case involves a commercial truck, bus, automobile, explosion, unsafe property condition, or catastrophic injury, our approach remains the same: prepare every case as if it will be tried before a jury and leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice.

Our firm is honored that a substantial portion of our practice comes from referrals by fellow attorneys, accountants, financial advisors, physicians, business owners, insurance professionals, and former clients who trust us to handle significant matters with professionalism, responsiveness, and determination.

We welcome referrals from attorneys seeking co-counsel, trial counsel, or referral counsel, as well as referrals from accountants, financial advisors, physicians, business owners, and other professionals whose clients may need experienced representation in serious injury, wrongful death, trucking, bus accident, explosion, or catastrophic injury matters.

The legal profession serves its highest purpose when experienced professionals collaborate to ensure that those facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives receive exceptional representation and a strong voice in the justice system.

Thank you to Bob Barnard for the opportunity to discuss these important legal issues and the real-world impact they have on victims and their families.

Happy Law Day.

For 34 years, I’ve had the privilege of standing up for individuals and families facing life-altering injuries. Serious personal injury cases are not just about legal arguments—they’re about restoring dignity, securing futures, and holding the right parties accountable.

At Pikrallidas & Probasco, we have built our reputation on results, preparation, and an unwavering commitment to our clients. That work has earned consistent recognition, including AV Preeminent ratings from Martindale-Hubbell, a 10.0 “Superb” rating from Avvo, and repeated honors as a Top Personal Injury Lawyer by Northern Virginia Magazine.

Recognition matters—but what matters more is the trust our clients place in us during the most difficult times of their lives.

On Law Day, I remain grateful for the opportunity to advocate, to be heard, and to make a difference where it counts.
