CHECK THOSE GATES TODAY
Many dogs don't escape because they're trying to run away.
They escape because they're terrified.
When fireworks start, even the most well-behaved dog may panic, jump a fence, squeeze through a small opening, or bolt through a gate that wasn't completely latched.
Every year, shelters receive an influx of lost pets after the Fourth of July. As kennels fill with frightened runaway dogs, rescues are often asked to step in and help create space for incoming strays.
🐾 Today's Tips:
✅ Walk your fence line and check for loose boards or gaps
✅ Test gate latches and locks
✅ Inspect collars and harnesses for wear and tear
✅ Make sure ID tags are attached and readable
✅ Remind guests and family members to be extra careful with doors and gates
✅ Consider double-leashing dogs during walks near fireworks
A few minutes spent checking your dog's environment today could prevent days—or even weeks—of searching tomorrow.
❤️ Every dog that stays safely at home helps shelters and rescues focus on the animals who truly need them.

This sleepy girl is Gemma, a 10-month-old sweetheart who is currently looking for her forever family. While she's demonstrating her best "melted dog" impression, it's also a great reminder to keep our pups safe during these hot Colorado days.
💧 Always provide fresh, cool water
🌳 Seek shade whenever possible
❄️ Offer cooling mats, frozen treats, or wet towels
🚶 Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
🔥 Avoid hot pavement that can burn sensitive paws
👀 Watch for signs of overheating like excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, or vomiting
Gemma is ready for a family to love her through every season—especially summer! Could that family be yours? ❤️
