new song called “Peregrine Falcon”

story time ~ I remember feeling very anxious in the weeks leading up to touring with earlier this year. the root of the feeling was “my vibe is nothing like Hudson’s vibe so what if the crowds don’t like me and it’s awkward”. My best buddy Huddog is a man of few words. His sets feature his natural mystique and well timed one liners, but also a lot of silence. But the crowds are always completely locked in. He has aura or rizz or yeah those things. He’s cool, goddamit! How was I supposed to be that? My bald ass scores very low on the aura meter and I can’t stand stage silence so I’m just always talking.

Tour started and our first show was in Pittsburgh. I was still nervous af and trying to steady myself. and then the really obvious thing dawned on me: “I should just be myself”. Duh. I weighed the options and decided that if I was going to embarrass myself, I should embarrass -myself-, not some facade of myself. I went out there and literally ignored all inhibitions and “cool filters” and just had fun and said everything off the dome. Just made it up. Didn’t look down and get scared, just sang my songs for the fun of it (crazy concept!!!) and bantered like a jester.

Long story short, it was an amazing show and I connected with so many people at the merch table who opened up and were vulnerable with me, because I was being vulnerable with my songs and storytelling. It was a very wholesome reminder that the cliche saying “be yourself, everyone else is taken 😘” are words to live by.

love, bgb

p.s. this is a new song called “give yourself a chance”
