Fourth of July Pet Safety Checklist
• Keep pets indoors before fireworks begin.
• Set up a quiet, cozy safe room with their bed, crate, blankets, and favorite toys.
• Close windows and curtains to reduce noise and flashing lights.
• Use sound masking like TV, fans, white noise, or calming music.
• Make sure collars, ID tags, and microchip info are up to date.
• Give pets extra exercise earlier in the day to reduce anxiety later.
• Use calming aids such as pheromone sprays, calming shirts, or vet‑approved supplements.
• Talk to your vet about anxiety medication if your pet struggles with loud noises.
• Double‑check doors, windows, and gates to prevent escape.
• Do not bring pets to fireworks shows.
• Keep pets away from grills, party food, and alcohol.
• Store fireworks securely and clean up debris afterward.
• Watch for early signs of anxiety like pacing, panting, whining, or hiding.

** Update! She has a foster home! **
This brave 5‑month‑old stray came to us terrified, injured, and fighting for her life. She just underwent major surgery to amputate her rear right leg, and now she needs what only a loving home can give — quiet, comfort, patience, and extra care while she heals.
She’s scared, unsure, and still trying to understand that she’s finally safe. She doesn’t even have a name yet… just a second chance.
We are desperately seeking a foster home who can help her recover, or an adopter ready to show her what love feels like.
All supplies and veterinary care are provided during her healing journey.
If your heart is tugging at you, please contact the shelter during regular business hours at 352‑589‑6228.
She truly needs someone to choose her.
Our community has always stepped up for the most vulnerable — and this kitten season, we’re asking again. Orphaned kittens are arriving regularly, each one needing safety, comfort, and a chance to grow into the beloved family cat they’re meant to be.
Whether you adopt or foster, you become part of their story — the part where everything finally gets better.
Stop by the Cat Protection Society and meet the tiny faces who are counting on all of us.
They come to us so small — some barely bigger than a hand — with stories we’ll never fully know. But what we do know is this: every kitten who enters our doors deserves a soft place to land, a warm lap to curl into, and a family who will love them for the rest of their lives.
Kitten Season may have started late, but the need is greater than ever.
If your heart has room, one of these little ones is ready to fill it.
