Celebrating the birthday of Marie Curie (1867-1934)! The first woman to receive a Nobel Prize and the only person to win in two scientific fields, she overcame barriers to study in Paris, where she and her husband Pierre Curie conducted groundbreaking research on radiation.

Marie coined the term “radioactivity” and together with her husband, discovered radium and polonium. She shared the 1903 Nobel Prize in Physics and won the 1911 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
