🐾 Scent Work (Scent Work)
Scent Work is a FUN and highly beneficial activity that allows your dog to use their natural hunting instincts. It provides intense mental stimulation — just 15–20 minutes can equal an hour-long walk — along with low-impact physical exercise.
Benefits include:
Reduces anxiety and builds confidence
Strengthens the bond between dog and handler
Can be done anywhere with no special equipment required
Suitable for ANY dog
Class begins by building your dog’s confidence and excitement for the game. Dogs start by searching for a favorite reward hidden in one of several boxes. The activity is self-rewarding — when they find the treat or toy, they immediately get to enjoy it!
As skills develop, searches expand from a few boxes to larger rooms, then to outdoor areas and even vehicles!
Eventually, dogs learn to search for and identify a specific target odor and locate its source. This sport is an incredible confidence builder — and a fantastic learning experience for handlers too!
🐾 Obedience Classes
Using positive reinforcement methods, you will learn how to teach your dog:
Sit, down, stay/wait
Recall, leave it, drop it
Loose leash walking
Place
Crate games and confidence-building games
The course is designed with the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen test in mind. Handler/dog teams are invited to test for their CGC at the end of the course if they feel ready. You may need additional training before being ready to test .
Classes will be offered on Thursdays as follows:
Thursdays:
11am-12am Puppy/Basic Obedience
12:15-1:15 Scent Work Foundation
4:45-5:45 Puppy/Basic Obedience

Interested in learning how to help your dog build better jumping skills and instilling confidence and speed using jump grids?
The Susan Salo jump grid program was designed for this purpose ! In her program she teaches the importance of using grids in training an agility dog. The grids teach the dogs to transfer their weight which allows them to perform clean jumping skills.
Sue Reuss has been teaching Grid classes based on the Salo program for many years for her agility students in Buffalo and has agreed to give us a workshop going thru all the basic/beginner foundations and grids.
Our instructors all had first dibs on working spots so they are full but this is a workshop where auditing is almost better as you can concentrate on watching the dogs work thru the grids , It is about not only learning the rules associated with working the grids , but developing an eye for what is correct ex*****on .
There has been so much interest in this topic we will try to offer other workshops this winter
The workshop is being held this Sun Jan 4th
9-1 Basic intro to the Grid program with the first set point jump exercise and basic grids
2-6 A continuation of beginner grids.
$30 to audit one session , $50 for the entire day of auditing
Contact Denise at [email protected] to sign up to audit or for more info
