Free Geology Tour of Mt Peak in Enumclaw.
October 11, 2024
To register call or text Talking Rocks Outdoor Company, 253-350-1211.
Our instructor will be Trevor Contreras of the Washington Geological Survey.
There are fascinating rocks on Mt. Peak, columns, lava, breccia, volcanic tuff, and glacial till. Some of the rocks on Mt. Peak came all the way from Canada. Some of the rocks are 20 million years old. Some of the rocks contain fossils.
Mr. Contreras will help us understand more of the story of the rocks on this little mountain in our backyard.
The event is free, but we ask that you register so we’ll know you are coming.

A poem for my hikers.
8/20/2024
Berry Creek Farm
I'm sitting in the breezeway on the east side of the barn,
listening to the clatter of rain on the tin roof.
A symphony, concerto, song.
There are crescendos and brief moments of pianissimo.
Sparrows chirp obbligatos.
I surrender to the music,
Dwell in its flow,
Revel in it,
Notice individual notes and phrases.
Then lose myself again in its sweep and movement.
Later today, I'll wish it away.
The gray and damp will weigh heavy.
I will want the customary August sun back.
I'll think about my hikers in the mountains--
The five old guys from Canada I dropped off at White River yesterday
And the couple from Portland I drove to Sunrise--
And wish for them blue sky, sun-dappled trails, and dry clothes.
But for now,
I'm enjoying the concert.
