For some reason there are things that never just simply go as planned. Day 57, about 6 PM, Dory evidently forgot to read the instructions and skipped the first stage of labor. Lots of panting, digging, pushing. By 8 PM - dilated, nothing in the birth canal. I had given her calcium a couple of times which really didn't seem to help. Call to the EC which told me to come on in. 35 minute drive to Lacey; checked in and was told to wait in the car; someone came out and took our info. Half hour I checked Dory - no progress. I did this until 10 PM when I finally could feel a head. At about 10:30 PM someone came out and told me to go somewhere else, that they were too busy to see Dory. I have teched at ECs and I know it can get crazy sometimes, but to turn away a bitch in dystocia wasn't something we ever did. Beside being inhumane, it is a $$ maker. 35 minute drive back home. Apologized to Dory and proceeded to pull a 10 oz pup. Now Dory is a diminutive 11 inch dog. This pup was half grown. The next was 8 oz and another was 7.8 oz. These three pups were dead - just too long waiting to get out. The next two pups were more normal 6.7 oz and survived. Two rollie pollie females. Fortunately, Dory is being a good mom.

Well, it only seems like a few days ago we had six of these little buggers terriorising our house. We are down to our keeper ARGOSY Grace O'Malley (Gracie). She almost makes up for the absence of her five siblings. Well, here we go again. ARGOSY Dory is due one week from pictured. We will know how many on Tuesday. Stay tuned.......
