Transition Justice
Two parents from Issaquah, Washington say their daughter was secretly socially transitioned by her school without their consent or knowledge.
According to their account, a local youth center later gave their daughter a burner phone and assisted her in creating a plan to run away and become a ward of the state — reportedly because the parents were not fully affirming of her gender identity.
After a friend allegedly reported the parents for abuse, the family became afraid the state would remove their daughter. They ultimately moved across the country to prevent that from happening.
Stories like this highlight the growing tension between parental authority and institutional decisions made without family involvement.

The Texas Supreme Court has ruled that detransitioner Soren Aldaco's lawsuit against the therapist who wrote her letter for “top surgery” can move forward.
In a unanimous decision released today, the Court held that Aldaco’s claims against therapist Barbara Rose Wood and Thriveworks are not time-barred. Wood had been seeing Aldaco for relationship issues when she signed a letter endorsing double mastectomy surgery in February 2021. Aldaco underwent the procedure in June 2021 and later came to regret it.
The lower courts had dismissed the case on statute of limitations grounds. The Supreme Court reversed, clarifying that the two-year clock did not begin until Wood completed (and terminated) treatment and that the actual injury occurred when the surgery took place.
This ruling means Aldaco’s claims of negligence and fraud against the therapist who enabled the surgery will now be heard on the merits.
We’ll continue following this case. Accountability in gender medicine matters — including for the mental health professionals who sign off on irreversible procedures.
