The Ten Words, those Ten Commandments, were soon to be given to the people of the Exodus at Sinai. The Lord led them to the foot of Mount Sinai, and before Moses climbed its heights to receive these Ten Words, the Lord spoke first to Moses and then to the people. He is ever the God who speaks, who hears, who listens, who makes the unholy become holy—indeed, His "treasured possession!"

In the Hebrew, "treasured possession" is a unique word, segoulah. As we walk through the wilderness of life toward our Promised Land, what it means to be the Lord's segoulah is that we have His eagle's wings, His Word and Sacraments, His holy gifts. These holy gifts are our joy. We cherish that we are cherished! Stay tuned for more in the sermon! This text is a gold mine of strength for you, His segoulah!
