Old one from way back, off the first record "Valley of the Deer" & also "Hot Chicken" Just rehearsin' for some gigs coming up. Right now, I've been independently working behind the scenes on releasing a bunch of music I've recorded from studio sessions in Escondido 2016 through 2025 in Nashville.

Releasing music on your own is a full-time job with lots of overtime. The soulful gains are usually very rich and fulfilling. Monetary returns? Not yet. There's great music that will never be heard because of the music industry's power and grip on the game. I'm proud to be independent. Ain't no label ever done me kindly, with the exception of in the studio, when it benefitted them to put on some sheep's clothing. This is no secret, it's out there, very public information, and it's happened to thousands of the best artists in the game.

I left baseball after high school thinking signing a deal at 18 was my ticket out. I again found myself excited when we signed to another label in my 20's. WE MADE SICK RECORDS. So grateful for that & I don't regret signing at all, because the music that we made is more magical than any of the bu****it that I had to trudge through. It's about the music first.

If you're an artist with hopes and dreams of signing a record deal, thinking that's the ticket, and you're reading this, please understand. My goal is not to discourage, but to inform. Success is possible. Perhaps lawyer up before you sign and maybe even STAY INDEPENDENT as long as you can.

A lot of industry folks are out on the hunt, they ain't here to feed us, that's for DAMN sure. Let's see what else, fame ain't s**t. Kill your ego. I make art because I have to. I am at peace with reality. I have no bitterness or resentment towards the game, nor hatred towards the industry. My teachers warned me about the harsh reality of this industry and LONG time ago. I now approach the game with more awareness for the sake of protecting the most sacred thing to me, my art.

Also, big one. Your followers, viewers, smile in your facers aren't all your friends. Protect yourself, but love hard.

One of my favorite songs. "Fun" Track 2 on the Nancarrow "Heart" E.P. I enjoyed all those years playin' music with Russell. I recently did an interview with a great journalist in town. I don't want to share too much before it's out, but I'll say this. I met Russell in Barrio Logan when I was 20 years old. I had NO idea I'd be fortunate enough to play in a band with him for 15 years. More music is on the way. Stay tuned.
