This past Saturday, 64811A Overheat competed in the Dan Spak Memorial VRC Competition. Nicholas finished the qualifiers with a record of 5-1-0 (dq'd after driving over a disk while scoring the 3 disks he was in possession of (robots may not possess more than 3 disks at one time)). 64811A was rank 12 going into the elimination bracket and chose 60883W (rank 43) as an alliance partner. As a team they won the Round of 16 and went into the Quarterfinal. Unfortunately, Nicholas was called again for a possession violation after driving over top 2 discs while the catapult was loaded with 3 discs. In an effort to avoid a dq and to rectify the situation, he launched his catapult. The discs landed outside the arena and his alliance was disqualified. Nicholas ended the day as the Skills Champion and was awarded the Amaze Award by the judges. The Amaze Award is presented to a team that has built an amazing, high-scoring robot that clearly demonstrates overall quality.

Today, Elyt Robotics kicked off their 2022-23 competition season at Wooster High School. Overheat arrived as only 1 of 2 catapults in an attendance of 54 teams. 64811A Overheat finished the qualifiers ranked 11 with a record of 4-1-0. Overheat chose 7316E (ranked 39) as an alliance partner. They went into the elimination bracket Round of 16 causing the first upset of the afternoon. In the quarterfinal, a string on 64811A slipped out of its holder resulting in Overheat having to remove the robot from play. In a 1 vs. 2 match, 7316E was unable to maintain their lead and the alliance was eliminated. Nicholas was able to get one driver skills attempt in prior to the skills line closing. Despite being 'disc'oriented, he was able to finish the day 2nd in skills. Overheat is now 2nd in Ohio. 64811A received the Judges Award. Job well done!

Just over 2 weeks ago, 64811A OverHeat, competed in the Mount Vernon VRC Qualifier. This was Nicholas' first opportunity to drive his new anodized robot build against an opponent. The robot competed at a higher level than the original build but had some ups and downs due to springing a pneumatic leak. 64811A was chosen by 1st Rank 6008C from North Union as an alliance partner in the elimination bracket. They were winning the quarterfinal match 130 to 119 when Nicholas made a risky maneuver in an attempt to clinch the win. The maneuver resulted in the opponent being awarded 30 penalties points and 64811A was eliminated. 64811A ended the day as Skills Champion (posted a new high score) and took home the Judges Award. Congratulations!
