In Burlington, North Carolina you'll find one of the last true drive-ins in the state at Skid’s Drive-In, a place that still runs the way these spots did years ago. When you pull in, you get real curb service, with a car-hop walking out to your car, handing you a menu, taking your order, and bringing everything right to your window. They’ll even check on you while you eat, just like back in the day, though you can also go inside and sit in the small dining area if you want. Every order is made fresh, and people keep coming back for the cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chicken plates, and baskets. The fresh lemonade is a favorite, and the Hot Fudge Cake is what many people save room for. The food comes out hot, quick, and in big portions, and Skid’s has stayed a go-to local spot for years while still feeling like a step back in time.
