More Effective Budgeting with QuickBooks Online: 10 Tips - Reconciled Solutions 06/09/2026

💡 Reconciled Solutions Tuesday Tip:

Most business owners know they should have a budget. Most also hate making one.

Here's the thing: the resistance usually isn't about discipline. It's about not having a system that makes the process feel manageable.

QuickBooks Online has a built-in budgeting framework that handles the mechanics for you. You're not wrestling with spreadsheets or rebuilding formulas every month. You're just thinking about the numbers.

We published 10 tips this month to help you actually use it well. A few that matter most:

Overestimate expenses. Underestimate income. Budget for your essentials before anything else. And look at your Budget vs. Actuals report at least once a month. That last one is where the real learning happens.

A budget doesn't guarantee a profitable year. But flying without one makes it a lot harder to course-correct when things shift.

I pray every day with seven women business owners.

We show up for each other before the world asks anything of us. We share our hopes, our struggles, our dreams, and our prayers — and then we go build something.

I don't take that lightly.

This group has lit a fire under my butt more than once. And I am blessed to be a part of God's plan alongside women who are doing the same hard, meaningful work of running a business with intention.

If you're building something and you're doing it alone, find your people.

Not just a networking group. Not just a mastermind. People who will actually pray with you.

Who's in your corner?

They say surround yourself with people smarter than you.

I've taken that seriously.

At Profit First Designer Days 2026, I got to stand next to some of the sharpest minds in this industry — fellow Profit First Professionals, firm owners, and entrepreneurs who are building something real.

My Fortress (left to right):
→ Susanne Mariga — Author of Profit First for Minority Business Enterprises and now designing luxury handbags at Florel (check them out: https://loom.ly/n_229GQ)
→ Wade Carpenter — Accounting Firm owner (https://loom.ly/Mr30yXM), co-host of The Contractor Success Forum Podcast, and author of Profit First for Commercial Construction
→ Me
→ Cyndi Thomason — Owner of Bookskeep (https://loom.ly/MZIswZE) and Your Profit Team (https://loom.ly/bcN7Gw0), author of Profit First for eCommerce Sellers AND Motherhood, Apple Pie, and All that Happy Horsesh*t

These are the people who push me. Who challenge me. Who remind me what's possible.

And then there's Fortress Fury, my other group. I've been in this one for seven years. These people are family.

At our most recent gathering, I led a full-day workshop on Brian P. Moran's The 12-Week Year.

Donna Lim of Sooter Consulting (https://loom.ly/Fh26d0o) summed it up better than I ever could:

"Angie, I read the 12-week year in preparation for your workshop and I have to tell you, I thought the book was a real snooze fest. But you brought it to life! I feel so motivated to go back and make things happen."

Your network is a strategy.

Who are the people making you better this year?

At Reconciled Solutions, we run every hiring decision through what we call our Immutable Laws. They're not job requirements, they're non-negotiables. Things like: Do they have the heart of a teacher? Do they do what they say they'll do? Are they someone who takes responsibility, or someone who finds someone else to blame?

Technical skills can be trained. Character can't.

When you hire toward your values instead of just your workload, something shifts. Your team stops being a list of tasks and starts being a culture.

And culture is what your clients feel, even when they can't name it.

Who is someone on your team who genuinely embodies your company values? Give them a shoutout below.
