đŸŒȘ Adult class tonight was absolute chaos in the BEST way đŸŒȘ

We split into teams and ran tag‑team jiu jitsu, and listen
the mats turned into a tactical battlefield of strategy, cardio, and “please don’t tag in the fresh guy” energy.

Here’s the thing about rolling in a format where a fresh teammate can jump in on you — it exposes a side of your jiu jitsu that normal rounds don’t always touch:
đŸ’€Fatigue management — You learn how to stay calm and technical even when you’re tired and your partner is suddenly not.
👀Situational awareness — You can’t zone out. You have to track bodies, movement, and incoming threats like a jiu jitsu Jedi.
đŸ‹â€â™€ïžPressure tolerance — A fresh opponent forces you to rely on structure, frames, and breathing instead of brute strength.
🧠Team strategy — You start thinking beyond “survive” and into “how do we win this exchange as a unit”.
đŸ„ŒRealistic adversity — In competition, you don’t get to choose when you’re tired. This drill teaches you to operate anyway.

Heads up, Ridge crew — NO OPEN MAT this Saturday, June 20th, because we’re taking our side hustle, Heeler Ridge Homestead, on the road.

Catch us at the Summer Market at the Civic Center here in Ellijay, where we’ll be selling microgreens and DIY grow‑at‑home kits.

Come by, say hi, support the chaos, and watch us pretend we’re farmers who have it all together.

Come meet Coach Kathy's amazing wife, Kellie!

Absolutely ferocious!!

Kids came in HOT today — 10 little warriors filling the mats with energy, focus, and that signature Ridge chaos‑but‑make‑it‑disciplined vibe. They drilled hard, encouraged each other, and set the tone for the whole evening.

Adults followed it up with 8 strong on the mats, and the room leveled up instantly because Professor Scott was in the house sharpening technique, tightening details, and making everyone rethink their life choices in the best way possible. Classic Scott effect.

Another night where the team showed up, put in the work, and walked out better than they walked in.

đŸŒ± Why Jiu Jitsu Matters for Kids — And Why Parents Matter Even More

At The Ridge, we talk a lot about how jiu jitsu builds confidence, discipline, and resilience in kids — but here’s the truth we don’t say enough:

Kids don’t grow in jiu jitsu just because they show up.
They grow because their parents commit to the journey with them.

Jiu jitsu gives kids:
-Real‑world problem solving
-Emotional regulation under pressure
-Body awareness and coordination
-Respect, humility, and leadership
-A safe place to fail, try again, and succeed

But the magic happens when parents:
-Bring them consistently
-Encourage them on the hard days
-Celebrate effort, not just results
-Model calm, steady energy
-Help them stay the course when it gets tough

Because here’s the thing — every kid hits moments where they want to quit, get frustrated, or feel stuck. That’s normal. That’s human. That’s growth. And that’s exactly where a parent’s commitment becomes the difference between: a kid who gives up and a kid who learns they can do hard things.

Jiu jitsu isn’t just a sport.

It’s a long‑term investment in who your child becomes — mentally, emotionally, and physically. When parents stay committed, kids learn to stay committed too.

At The Ridge, we’re not just building athletes.
We’re building strong, confident, resilient humans — and we’re doing it with you, not without you.

Your consistency is their superpower.
Your support is their foundation.
Your commitment is their breakthrough.

Kids Class Recap: The Technique Was There
 The Chaos Was Louder

Yesterday’s kids class was a whole journey.
We started all civilized with the double under stack pass—tiny humans stacking each other like they were building IKEA furniture with zero instructions.

Then we moved on to grip work with a friendly game of Ghost in the Gym, which quickly turned into “let’s see how fast we can make Coach question her life choices.”

And THEN
 out of absolutely nowhere
the children collectively decided it was time for Sharks and Minnows and immediately went full feral.
Running. Screaming. Zero sense of direction. Pure goblin energy.

If chaos had a soundtrack, it would’ve been yesterday’s class.
But hey—technique was learned, cardio was done, and no one cried

Hard work. Big sweat. Bigger smiles.
Competition Class crushed it tonight.

Today I had the honor of tying a grey and white belt around Finn’s waist — and it meant more than just a rank.

When Finn first came to The Ridge, he didn’t know his own strength yet. He went hard every round, tried to win every exchange, and didn’t always handle losing with grace. He wasn’t a bad kid — he was a kid who hadn’t learned control, patience, or the deeper purpose of jiu jitsu yet.

But then something shifted.

Finn started slowing down. He started helping his smaller teammates instead of overpowering them. He let them work, let them win some, and even took time to show them how to improve their technique.

He stopped caring about being the strongest in the room

and started caring about making the room stronger.

That is jiu jitsu.
That is growth.
That is leadership.

I was incredibly proud to tie that new belt around him today.

Stripe season continues at The Ridge.
Three kids rolled in, caused problems, learned things, and walked out with new stripes.

Meanwhile, one of our “adults” also earned a stripe, proving that maturity is optional but hard work is not.

Also
summer camp is filling up at an alarming rate. If you blink, your kid’s spot might be gone. Consider this your friendly, slightly panicked reminder.
