Lights, camera, ASL! Join us this July 27–31 for the Deaf ASL Literacy Film Academy Junior at the MSD Columbia Campus.

The Deaf ASL Literacy Film Academy Junior is an immersive summer program at the MSD Columbia Campus, offered in partnership with Gallaudet University’s Motion Light Lab and featuring guest instructor Rosa Lee.

Designed for MSD students entering grades 4–8, the program brings ASL literature and visual storytelling to life through hands-on experiences. Participants develop original scripts, perform, and produce short films while building skills in storytelling, collaboration, and performance.

Through a blend of ASL literature, creative technology, and performance, students explore scriptwriting, acting, and filmmaking using Apple technology. The program culminates in student-created films shared with the MSD community.

Join us for a community screening of the “Unmasking Deaf Education” documentary on Wednesday, December 3, followed by a conversation with director and MSD alumnus Carey Ballard (‘15). The film features MSD among several schools highlighted. The event takes place from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Ely Auditorium on the MSD Frederick Campus. The event is free, open to the public, and will include ASL/English interpretation.
