A little summer reminder from Dr. Hamze ☀️🪥

Before camps, vacations, pool days, and busy summer schedules fully kick in, this is a great time to catch up on your child’s dental checkup.

Things tend to fill up quickly once summer gets going, so getting ahead now can make everything feel a little easier later on.

☀️ Summer checklist reminder:
✅ Dental checkup
✅ Fresh toothbrushes
✅ Travel toothbrush packed
✅ Healthy snacks + lots of water
✅ Ready for summer fun!!

📲 If you’ve been thinking about getting your child scheduled before summer gets busy, we’d be happy to help.

“How do I brush my child’s teeth?” 🪥

This is one of the most common questions I get asked as a pediatric dentist, and honestly… you don’t have to do it perfectly to be doing a great job 🤍

Ideally, you want to brush for at least two minutes and make sure you’re getting all of those hard-to-reach areas, especially along the gum line and in the back teeth.

I also usually recommend flossing after brushing so a little bit of that toothpaste can get down in between the teeth too ✨

And between us… I know brushing your child’s teeth isn’t always easy. Some nights are smoother than others, and that’s completely normal.

The goal isn’t perfection, it’s consistency, support, and building healthy habits over time. We’re always here to help guide you and answer questions along the way 👩‍⚕️🤍

At El Segundo Pediatric Dentistry, one of the biggest misconceptions we see is that baby teeth aren’t that important. 🦷

In reality, they play a huge role in your child’s development, from helping with speech and nutrition to guiding adult teeth into the right position.

Caring for baby teeth early on helps set the foundation for a healthy smile long-term! 😁

If you’ve ever had questions about your child’s dental development, we’re always here to help guide you 🤍

”When should my child go to the dentist for the first time?” 👶

This is one of the most common questions I get asked as a pediatric dentist, and the answer might be earlier than you think.
I recommend scheduling your child’s first dental visit by age one or within 6 months of their first tooth coming in.

These early visits are less about treatment and more about making sure everything is developing properly, checking for any early concerns, and helping you feel confident about your child’s dental health moving forward. 🤍

It’s also a great opportunity for you to ask questions and get guidance on things like brushing, habits, nutrition, and what’s normal as your child grows.

As both a mom and a pediatric dentist, I know first visits can feel a little intimidating for parents too, which is why we focus on making the experience feel easy, welcoming, and low-pressure from the moment you walk in.

If you’ve been thinking about scheduling your child’s first visit, we’d be happy to walk you through what to expect and help you find a time that works best for your family 📲✨

Okay this was way too cute not to post 😭🤍

These sweet patients came in wearing the shirts we gave them at their last visit and it absolutely made our day! Seeing kids excited to come means everything to us!!! 🦷🪥✨

Shoutout to for the cutest shirts

Thumb sucking is one of the most common questions we get from parents, and the answer isn’t always as simple as “stop it.” 👩‍⚕️👍

For younger children, it’s completely normal and often a way to self-soothe. In many cases, it naturally fades over time.

👀 What we look at most is timing. If the habit continues as adult teeth begin to come in, it can start to affect alignment and development.

Every child is different, which is why we always take an individualized approach.

If this is something you’ve been thinking about, our team at El Segundo Pediatric Dentistry is always here to help guide you in the right direction! 🦷
