Plan for today is finding water and everyday after while I'm out here. Map show water in 2, 7 and 20 miles. Let's hope none of them have dead animals in them. I can handle algae but not dead animals.

I'm camped down for the night. Yeah I still have internet. I'm on a high plain. I can see all around me for miles and miles.

Its going to be miserable tonight. My water blader had a big leak. Now my sleeping bad is wet. Good thing my down jacket was in a water proof-ish stuff sack.

The day has finally come. In a few minutes I start my trek northwards ending in Colorado. Mother nature will decide how far north I get. I'm filling my belly with steak and egg and an apple pie at 5R Travel Center north of Deming NM.

To say it's been frustrating to get to this point is an understatement. This last hiccup happened soon after I stepped of the train in Deming. I had runny nose with some blood. I also had throat and chest pain when I breathed. I figured it would be best not to be out in the middle of a desert alone and ill.

I've had to leave lots of my gear behind due to aging body. I was able to get my pack weight down to 67 pounds. This is a common dilemma preppers face. What to take and what to leave behind.

I'll be out of cell phone range for a few days. Next stop Silver City in 5 to 7 days.

Next update will have pictures may be videos too.

Finally on west bound train to Deming NM.

I almost got stuck in the stairwell with all my gear. Luckily a kind lady told me I could put my backpack and duffle bag on the lower level shelf.

Love it plenty of leg room. Now to get some sleep.

Update on my itinerary. My original plan was to take an Amrak train from San Antonio to Lordsburg, New Mexico. Then I would take a CDT shuttle to the Mexican border 85 miles south.

But for some reason it turns out that there are no shuttles running during the summer. They told me for some strange reason hikers avoid the desert in the summer.

I will not be deterred. There is an alternate CDT trail. So instead of Lordsburg I'll be stopping off at Deming, New Mexico. They have a small regionsl bus that goes down to Columbus New Mexico.

Main draw back to this route is that it will be more populated. I would have preferred being as far away from the cartel and coyetes.

Before I start I'll be checking in with the Border Patrol and advising them of my plans. I'll also make sure the my radio is able to be monitored by them.
